Starting in the 2016-2017 school year, Jessie Loomis Elementary School has focused on implementing cooperative learning structures. While visiting classrooms you’ll see cooperative learning strategies come alive. Students eagerly await the chance they get to collaborate with their fellow classmates. Some favorites include Quiz-Quiz-Trade and Fan-N-Pick. Through these structures, not only is content a focus, but cognitive and social domains are honed in on. The students at Jessie Loomis embrace one another with a greeting and are always sure to praise and thank each-other upon departure. The driving force behind these learning opportunities are the teachers. Their willingness and enthusiasm to plan, implement, and reflect make these cooperative learning structures a success. Just as the students find value in these structures, so have their educators.
