IEE has had a longstanding partnership with Grant Middle School since the fall of 2013. They have implemented the Focused Instructional Model for math, are part of the Investing in Innovation (i3) grant, and have had Math and Literacy Coaches help implement various strategies in classrooms.
Persistence and Determination
Melinda Zerlaut is the 8th grade math teacher at GMS. She is dedicated, determined, and works hard on behalf of her students every single day. Data shows that she consistently increases student achievement. She provides real-world, application style of problems for her students to help prepare them for the future.
Melinda and her students have FIM data living in her classroom. In the fall, each student creates a visual representation of themselves, and every time they improve on a Progress Monitoring Test, they move “themselves” along the Wall of Fame. A few students have received perfect scores on their PMTs!
Melinda deserves recognition for her work ethic and for everything she does for students and their learning. She helps students get excited about math and builds their confidence. IEE is proud to work with Melinda and her colleagues at Grant Middle School.
