Developing Strong Readers
Children who have a strong belief in their own ability are more likely to engage in activities and persist in facing challenges. This will lead to improved literacy skills and long-term academic success.Â

About the Project
The Institute for Excellence in Education’s ICAN Literacy Project was developed to specifically address Michigan’s widening literacy and academic achievement gap between urban and rural students. This model was awarded funding under the 2023 US Department of Education’s Innovative Approaches to Literacy Grant.Â
