Elementary Students Working At Computers In ClassroomPrepare Your Students for Success on the M-STEP

As the new Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP) assessment draws near, you and your team may have questions regarding the new testing format and structure, what it means for your students, and how you can best prepare students for testing success.

Join teachers and school leaders from around the state at our one-day workshop to learn how you can prepare your school for the M-STEP and its implications for teaching and instruction.

Participants will…

  • Explore the new M-STEP assessment
  • Analyze sample test questions with regard to both technology and format
  • Identify instructional strategies to support student learning in preparation for the assessment
  • Develop individual school plans for sharing and implementation

Facilitators

Benson2014Patricia Benson is the founder and former director of the Center for Excellence in Education, a K-12 professional development organization now known as the Institute for Excellence in Education. Under her direction, the Center received national recognition and awards for marked increases in student achievement at schools they serviced. Patricia served on the Board of Directors for Michigan ASCD, is a member of Learning Forward and the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform, and is a certified Cognitive Coaching Agency Trainer. A frequent presenter at state and national conferences, Patricia is the author of High Performing Teams and several professional publications.

Nofs2014Tracy Nofs is a Leadership Coach for the Institute for Excellence in Education and has over 30 years’ experience as a principal, teacher, speech pathologist, and dean of curriculum. A frequent conference presenter and workshop facilitator, Tracy now coaches educators across the country on implementing leadership and curriculum best practices. She is a member of Central Michigan University’s High School Reform Initiative and the Michigan Schools to Watch Appointment Committee. Tracy earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University and holds several education certifications.

Palmer2014Theresa Palmer brings over 10 years of classroom experience to her role as an Academic Coach at the Institute for Excellence in Education. A passionate advocate for ensuring educators are meeting the needs of all children, Theresa supports educators in school throughout Michigan by facilitating professional development workshops and providing job-embedded coaching in the areas of student engagement, instructional strategies, and using formative assessment data to differentiate instruction. Theresa earned a Master’s degree in Middle Level Education from Central Michigan University.

Pratt2014Blake Pratt brings over 10 years of classroom experience to his role as a Targeted Learning Coach for the Institute for Excellence in Education. As a former middle-grades math teacher, Blake helped to develop an instructional model that significantly increased his students’ math proficiency. As a math coach for IEE, Blake provides ongoing professional development to schools and has empowered hundreds of educators to implement instructional strategies that lead to sustained student growth and achievement.

Sholten2014

Molly Sholten is a Targeted Learning Coach at the Institute for Excellence in Education. A former math teacher with over 11 years of classroom experience, Molly was instrumental in the development of an instructional model that skyrocketed her students’ achievement. Molly now works side-by-side with educators in K-12 schools throughout Michigan by facilitating ongoing professional development and coaching, and demonstrating how teachers can use student data and formative assessment to increase student learning.


Event Registration Cancellation Policy

Transfer: Registrations are transferrable, but not refundable. Substitutions for persons attending can be made up to one day in advance of the event without charge.

Cancellation by Participant: No refunds will be given, but a voucher for attendance at another Institute for Excellence in Education event will be offered and will be valid for one full year.

Cancellation by IEE: In the event of circumstances beyond its control, the Institute for Excellence in Education reserves the right to amend or cancel any event. If the Institute for Excellence in Education cancels an event, registrants will be offered a full refund.
