Purpose
To provide teams of middle-grades building and district administrators and teacher leaders an opportunity to network with other middle-grades leaders for the purpose of better serving young adolescents academically, socially, developmentally, and organizationally.
Outcomes
- Examine the four domains of Schools To Watch to gain further insight regarding practices, programs and policies that best serve the needs and characteristics of young adolescent learners
- Engage in structured activities to further networking between and among middle-grades educators across the state
- Increase effectiveness of middle-grades leaders and build distributed leadership teams through the examination of key processes including: planning, implementing, supporting, advocating, communicating and monitoring young adolescent best educational practices
- Explore middle-grades curriculum, instruction, assessment, culture, and data that supports high-performing middle schools
Teams of five or six persons are to include:
- District Administrator
- Building Principal
- Teacher Leaders
Your Facilitators
Patricia Benson is the former founder and director of the Center for Excellence in Education that garnered two national awards for increasing student achievement in high-needs middle schools throughout Michigan. She is absolutely committed to improving the lives of students and making certain that all students are learning at high levels. To this end, she has spent most of her career supporting teachers and coaches to be effective educators. Pat is trained in Cognitive Coaching, the skills of collaboration through Adaptive Schools, Kagan Cooperative Learning and is the author of High-Performing Teams.
Dave Nizinski brings more than thirty years of educational experience to the Institute for Excellence in Education. From working with emotionally impaired students to leading a middle school through reform, Dave’s expertise is vast. Dave is highly skilled in the use of Cognitive Coaching skills and is an expert facilitator.
Event Registration Cancellation Policy
Transfer: Registrations are transferable to other team members at your school if necessary.
Cancellation by School: No refunds (partial or full) will be given if a team misses one seminar.
Cancellation by IEE: In the event of circumstances beyond its control, the Institute for Excellence in Education reserves the right to amend or cancel any event. If the Institute for Excellence in Education cancels a meeting in this series, it will be rescheduled.
