Instructional and Leadership Coach Specialist
Committed to the core mission of ensuring students are prepared for success in K-12, college, work, and life, Kapeka Salter has dedicated her career to strengthening leaders, building capacity, growing minds, and impacting students. Kapeka joined the Institute team in 2022 as an Instructional and Leadership Coach and hit the ground running.
At the core of her work, Kapeka firmly believes in the power of collaborative educational environments. She has focused her career around inspiring teachers to build collaborative classroom and school learning cultures, where student achievement and a safe environment remain at the forefront. Kapeka’s style of fostering a transparent climate for communication and information flow between students, parents, teachers, leaders and district team members is a proven success. Day-in day-out, she wins hearts and minds through her approach to supporting the development of educators, ultimately encouraging them to achieve more than they thought possible in their quest to help kids reach their full potential.
Kapeka began her career as a middle school teacher, working to ensure that students experienced an educational environment in which they could thrive. Following her time in the classroom, Kapeka was quickly tapped to assume school leader roles in both the charter and traditional K-12 sectors, where she served as an Instructional Coach, Assistant Principal, District Coordinator for English Language Learners, and Principal.
Along her journey in the education arena, Kapeka grew her skillset to be adept in human resources, special education, facilities management, student activities and discipline, and instructional leadership. She is trained in the delivery of Cognitive Coaching and Adaptive Schools as she supports educators through reform. Through her rich experiences and deliberate practice, Kapeka is recognized as an expert in the industry and has contributed much thought leadership through numerous roles and opportunities throughout the State of Michigan, and beyond.
Kapeka earned her Master of Educational Leadership in 2011 from Saginaw Valley State University and Bachelor of Science in Education in 2004 from Wayne State University.
